NBC Universal Media released the first images from Heroes season finale Episode 23 ‘How To Stop An Exploding Man’ slated to air May 21, 2007.
As always the images are offered in no particular order and without description -but the name, title and air date of the episode, name of the character and the actor, date it was taken and by whom. They sure have tight lips!
That’s why if always entertaining, and sure to stimulate some discussion, to try to put those images in order and speculate on what the situation on the image might be.
As mentioned in the official description of episode 23, most of the action during the season finale will take part at Kirby Plaza. And everybody knows what ‘Kirby’ refers to…right? If not: search for ‘Jack Kirby , Marvel Comics and X-Men’.
We assume this -in chronologichal order – should be the first image of the series: Peter Petrelli with Nathan. And that -on Peter’s hands- doesn’t appear to be blood, but some paint applied to help with the visual effects in post-production.
On the next image
the detail of the same picture seems to confirm it.
Another look at Peter Petrelli…
…and a closer look at the stains on his hands.
It gets even more interesting. As we know Micah Sander is Mr. Linderman’s ‘guest’, and the babysitting is -reluctantly- provided by Candice Willmer (that has the power of illusion).
During episode 21 Micah attempted to escape, unsuccessfully. It appears that this time he has better luck.
Our impression of this picture is that Jessica wasn’t very thankful to Candice for the free babysitting she provided her with…
..and, if our suspects are accurate, Candice we’ll have a fat lip that’ll last her till next season.
Look who we got here! Jessica, Molly ‘tracker’ Walker, Micah and …there goes the speculation DL will die during episode 22. He’s alive…
…but -check his hand- he’s hurt. Guess Mr. Linderman didn’t feel like using his healing power on that. Secondary note: all four of them are looking ‘up’, something important is happening.
Claire Bennet is running…
…there’s blood on the collar of her shirt.
Even HRG and Claire Bennet are looking at something happening up here, and…
… there’s blood and …
..she’s holding the gun Peter handed her during episode 21. Will she use it to shoot Peter? or Sylar? or maybe someone else? And will that be the solution…
…or the solution involves also the necessity to stop someone else?
Hiro seems to think so.
Stay tuned, that’s going to be a great ride, our Heroes will keep us guessing till the last second.

As Hiro explained to Ando during episode #1
time is not a line ( even better: not a straight line)
and that he learned from reading X-Men.
If time was a line (timeline) Hiro would have never been able
to talk to ‘future himself’ (in person -like during chapter 20- or by phone -like
during an earlier episode-) or one of the two ‘Hiros’ would have ceased to exist.
Hi Infelt.
Now that you are quoting Hiro’s theories based on Xmen. I would quote a theory based on back to the future.
When Dr. Brown, Marty, Jennifer and the dog gets back from the future where biff stole the delorean
they get back to a diferent reallity, the events has changed.
Dr. Brown explains: when we get back to this time we found everything changed but reality to everyone else.
Hiro talking to himself over the phone doens’t compromise hiro’s existence, if Hiro get killed by answering the phone that would compromise his existence.
Hiro meeting the Future hiro that is a problem. however, F. Hiro tells P. Hiro “you are not supposed to be here” as he doesn’t recolect meeting with himself.
this also has a flaw, how is this posible if P. Hiro go forward 5 years, F. Hiro shouldn’t be there.
and again… when you have a tv show with time travel involved it gets complex, we just need to know the author’s way of seeing time in order to make any intelligent statement about Hiro.
I used the word “timeline” not for saying time is a line or shuld be thought of as a line, English is not my primary lenguaje so that was the best word i knew to explain my theory.
Regards from Mérida Yucatán México.
You see?
Two different stories based on two different theories: ‘Heroes’ is based on the “string theory” (let’s call it ‘quantum leap’) and Back to the Future instead is based on the theory that time is linear.
If you look at the comic Sylar is stabbed while he is wearing Claire’s new coat. Wonder if this is somehow Candace related?
i love the people who do this they rock! them and heores!
Just some random questions, which I hope will be answered in the next two episodes:
1. Who is gonna blow up?
2. Is Nathan going to die?
3. Who is Pappa Petrelli and what is his power?
4. How could Linderman know what power Mika was going to have?
5. What is Daddy Nakamura’s power?
6. How does Hiro get rid of his glasses?
7. Where is Mohinder’s sister and what power does she have?
8. What is Mohinder’s power?
9. What powers do Nathan’s kids have?
10. What power is the cop’s kid going to have?
11. When is Hiro going to fight the T-Rex?
12. What is the solar eclipse all about?
13. Who is Uluru?
14. Why is the world (not only NY) in danger and how can it be saved?
15. Why does the Haitian have two powers?
feel free to add more to the list.
hi Infelt, i think you are getting it wrong.
If Heroes is not based on linear time then there is nothing Hiro can do to stop pretty much anything cuz the future they try to stop is part of a diferent reality and has nothing to do with the present
And, Back to the future has not a linear time focus, if that is the case, then biff would have never returned to the future where he stole the delorean.
As i said before, you just have to know what is the writer concept about time, i dont think its based on any time theory other than honoring the cause->effect aspect of time.
regards.
OMFG cant w8 !! AHHHHHHHHHHHHH where can i see e21???
Hi John finn i’ll try to answere some of your question, i hope you dont mind i give it a shot.
1. Who is gonna blow up?
Peter. (Hiro make him unstable stabing him fooled by sylar’s ilustion of peter looking like sylar with candice hability, my theory)
2. Is Nathan going to die?
Yes. ( at the state of things at chapter 21, he will get killed by Sylar)
3. Who is Pappa Petrelli and what is his power?
Unknown, some guys says linderman is Nathan and Peter biological father.
4. How could Linderman know what power Mika was going to have?
Unknown, consider that Linderman has a large collection of most of Isaac Mendez work.
5. What is Daddy Nakamura’s power?
Unknown. there is the rumor based on the similar
dialogs between Nathan-Linderman, Hiro-Hiro’s father “a few things”, that sugest hiro’s father has the hability to cause death.
6. How does Hiro get rid of his glasses?
Unknown, maybe he use contact lens in the future or pays for a surgery after all his father is rich. @:P
7. Where is Mohinder’s sister and what power does she have?
Dead. Mohinder was born too late to help her
with his antibodies, her power remains unknown.
a theory exists about shanti had the same habilities of Molly walker, and that is how the
first list ( Mohinder’s father list ) was made.
8. What is Mohinder’s power?
he doesn’t have any. ( at the time ).
9. What powers do Nathan’s kids have?
Unknown if any ( so far ).
10. What power is the cop’s kid going to have?
Unknown ( he definetively has some, otherwise why would it be necesary to hide them, maybe he is the kid that extracted oxigen out of the air ).
11. When is Hiro going to fight the T-Rex?
Maybe is just Isaac picture of hiro steeling the sword from the museum, there may not be any dinofight.
12. What is the solar eclipse all about?
VERY VERY GOOD QUESTION, if you know any about it tell me.
13. Who is Uluru?
Who? sorry i dont know anyone by that name.
14. Why is the world (not only NY) in danger and how can it be saved?
The bomb creates paranoia about the special kind of people, that has an impact on the entire world.
As Sylar said ( actin as nathan ) they restrict the reproduction of special people, and do all kind of restrictions to their families. since the special people are not born in NY or in US but All over the world, then whe hole world has turned into a “racist” one, making life undesirable for special people.
15. Why does the Haitian have two powers?
You mean the fact that he can stop other special people powers, and make you forget things?, that is unknown, but why is that so strange, peter and sylar have around 10 powers each.
On…
7. Isn’t Mohinder’s sister dead?
9. I don’t think Nathan’s kids have powers unless his wife has them. The third generation Heroes (Micah, Molly, Claire) all have powers because both their parents have abilities. So yes, since the Petrelli brothers have powers, it means that both Mama and Papa Petrelli have powers we don’t know of.
11. Didn’t Hiro “fight” the T-Rex already? When he stole the replica sword, he faced a T-Rex and that was the exact same image in Isaac’s painting.
actually, two questions could be related:
1. What does Silar do with the brains?
2. Why does the Haitian have two powers (blocking other heroes’ powers AND erasing people’s memories)?
a) The source of the powers must be located somewhere in the brain.
b) Let’s assume that the Haitian has only one power and that his ability to erase memories is just one of the manifestations of this power (just like Ted can explode, make ice melt, start a car, etc).
c) This means that the powers have to have something to do with memory. If the Haitian is only present, he cancels out other people’s powers. But if he concentrates his power, he erases memories.
Keep in mind that Silar used to be a watchmaker. He used a magnifying glass to look into the “brain” of the watch to see what “makes it tick”. I would say he doesn’t eat the brains. He just looks at them (maybe his real ability is some sort of supervision or superunderstanding into how things work) and “sees” what makes them tick. Then he somehow adjusts/fixes his own brain to do the same.
Further, since the powers are somehow connected to memory, it could be that the brain remembers the powers. This would mean that everybody has all the powers, but in most people the brain simply doesn’t remember them, because they are blocked or repressed. In the heroes, the brain remembers certain abilities, because the specific mechanism to repress them is weak or missing.
So Silar can see which of these inhibitors is missing and remove it in his own brain too.
This would also explain why Peter and Silar can have multiple abilities: They’re both lacking multiple inhibitors.
This means: We all (i.e. all human beings in the TV-series) used to have all the abilities (were godlike), but our brains simply have forgotten about them. Maybe it was decided ages ago that we’re just not ready for these abilities yet, so our access to them was blocked and our collective memory deleted (just like the Haitian does).
Just a very small number of people knows what’s going on (or they think they do) and that knowledge is passed on from generation to generation. And once in a while a small number of people is given limited access to the powers to test if they are now able to work together and use them responsibly, i.e. for the greater good. So far, this apparently hasn’t worked, since the parents now have to rely on their kids to set things right.
ooooooooooooor maybe this is all wrong and I just have too much time.
Uluru was Isaacs big rock guy!!
He can be seen in the first couple episodes…

In terms of relating what is happening to 5 Years Gone, I think we, the audience, have to remember how the episode was presented: What could happen if our Heroes fail. Those of us who understand (theoretically) what time travel implies, see it as a future that HAS to be. But those who don’t think too hard, coupled with how NBC has presented it, means we should look at it as a future that COULD be. Just one of any number of possibilities. Which, actually, could theoretically be true, depending on how quantum mechanics play into it all.
Also, in terms of Nathan and Peter, we have to remember this – Nathan doesn’t know that Peter survives. If you think back to his conversation with Linderman, Linderman implies that Peter will not just explode, but die. We know this is what Nathan thinks, as he eludes to it in 0.07%, when Peter is “dead” when Nathan says “you weren’t supposed to die like this” or something along those lines. So for Nathan, it is a choice: Save Peter, lose the White House, or let Peter die, and get become President. In “Five Years Gone,” he chose the latter, and he ended up dead. I am betting that in this universe, he chooses the former, and somehow stops Peter from exploding.
oh, and talking about the eclipse:
Let’s say it’s a symbol.
The moon blocks the sun. Sun means light. When there is light, we can see.
Let’s say it’s not that at some point in the future, the sun will be blocked.
The sun IS blocked already. We just don’t know it because it’s been blocked as far as we can remember. (see Plato’s allegory of the cave)
We’ve been living in darkness/ignorance all the time without knowing it.
In other words:
1. The sun symbolizes all the powers and the memory of a time, when man was like god.
2. The moon symbolizes the fact that we forgot about this time and our powers. (keep in mind that silar wants the powers for himself. He doesn’t want to share. Sharing, however, is the ultimate good (according to pretty much all religions and most ideologies like Marxism)).
3. The few rays emitting on the side (the Ring) are the Heroes – remnants/reminders of the sun.
Silar:
1. Knowledge is power.
2. Silar looks into the brain, knows how the power works and thus acquires it.
ok, ok, I’ll shut up now.
I think Hiro finally understood that the person to kill is Linderman, since he his behind all, Linderman is the one that will heal the exploting man to alloud him explode.
