Who is Linderman, anyway?

Christopher Ecclestone

I was wrong, again. According TvGuide, our beloved (ex)Dr.Who will be Claude, The Invisible Man, and he’ll be a mentor for Peter and guide him on his journey to learn and control his power.

Claude, an invisible man played by British actor Christopher Eccleston (Doctor Who), appears January 22. “He’s been living with his invisibility for many years and has come to grips with it, so he’ll give us a different view into this hero world,” Tim Kring explains. “He’s big, imposing and charismatic, and will become a mentor to Peter – albeit a tough, reluctant and stern one. He’ll help Peter learn to use and control his powers.”

Isn’t the topic here, “who is Linderman”? If you follow the short comics NBC has on their web page you learn a bit about the past of Linderman and how he used his powers of healing for the first two times. The first time was accidentel, and he saved his mother on her death bed. For that he was rewarded by his parents with them saying he was a freak and Linderman left his family. The second time is many years latter in viet nam where he heals a Sgt. (I’m suspicious if this Sgt. migth be Peter and Nathan’s father). I believe that Linderman is part of the original group of heroes mentioned that “tried to make a difference and some lost their way.” Through his life he became aware (way before Suresh’s father) that there were many other people in the world with special powers and he either colected them into his fold or kept a close eye on them, even manipulating them to breed more “special people” like in that one episode where it was aranged that Niki/Jessica slept with Nathan, and D.L. upon breaking into Linderman’s gallery assuming he arranged him and Niki being together. Linderman is a powerful man because he controls the information and has a vision of the larger picture that reamins to be seen. I hope that D.L. didn’t actually kill him and that its all an illusion made from that one chick under his employment (I wonder if she can make illusions of other people without herself having to take up the space?). I think Linderman is a very interesting character that I hope we get to learn more about in the future episodes. He has a lot to contribute to the story still.

Oh, something important about Linderman’s power is that he can only heal the living. He can’t bring people back from the dead.
