Five Years Gone picks up where we left Ando and Hiro, in Isaac’s apartment where they end up finding Future Hiro. Future Hiro explaines what happedned to the city, Sylar has exploded and killed millons of people. he has been working on a timeline to prevent all this from happening, and he also thought he found a way. (Telling Peter to “Save the cheerleader, save the world”) Hiro and Ando inform him that Peter did indeed saved the cheerleader, but he did not kill Sylar. Future Hiro tells them to go back on the election day to kill Sylar, but at the time Matt Parkman, now the head of Homeland Security, Haitian and his men break in and capture Hiro. Ando and Future Hiro excape. They agree on freeing Hiro and sending him back to kill Sylar. Future Hiro teleports them to Las Vegas to get help from Peter Petrelli.

In Las Vegas, they go to Niki’s club where she dances and runs to find Peter. Niki and Peter has become lovers. She tells them Peter has no interest in helping them. Then they ask about Bennet, she tells them that he’s still in Texas. After they leave, Peter appears on the counter. He’s been there all the time watching them, invisible. They argue about Hiro and Ando and that is where we learn Micah and DL are both dead.

Parkman questions Hiro about events over the past five years and becomes angry becaouse Hiro can’t remember them. He tries to read his mind on and on but there’s nothing in there. He still doesn’t seem to realize that the Hiro they have captured is the younger Hiro. Parkman calls the President, Nathan Petrelli, to inform that they have Hiro Nakamura. Nathan seems to have thoughts about this being a trap. he wants Matt to use more power to get anything out from him. Nathan later meets with Mohinder, the top science advisor. They talk about explosion and the possibility of curing the abilities of superbeings. When Mohinder points out that it is impossible to take their abilities back, Nathan tells him about his plan, extinction. He tells Mohinder that he is going to announce the world that hey have found a cure, which is a false vaccine that will put an end to the species kind.

While Parkman forces Hiro to talk about his plans for tonight, the 5th anniversary of the explosion, he gets a call about Mohinder being at Isaac’s studio looking at the timeline.
Back in Texas, Primatech Paper Company. Mr. Bennet has become a man who helps people with special powers to hide and be safe. Ando and Hiro asks help for some of the people that he helped to rescue. (DL, Candice, Molly Walker) He refuses until Ando tells him that Hiro saved Claire by telling Peter Petrelli to save her. Mr. Bennet seems to agree to help them.

Mohinder and Parkman discuss about the meaning of the strings. Mohinder starts to believe Hiro’s theory, that he can change the future with his time traveling ability. Parkmas still doesn’t believe in that.

Claire has became a waitress, making plans about her wedding with her fiance. While talking the boy points out the creepy man in her section, who turns out to be Mr. Bennet. He warns her that someone knows about her and she needs to leave immediately. She hesitates for a moment but then takes the money. while they were talking something on tv appears, people are taken away from their homes as a matter of Homeland Security.

While waiting for Mr. Bennet, Ando asks Future Hiro about what has happened to him. Before Hiro answers, Parkman bursts in and captures Future Hiro. He gets shocked to find another Hiro and finally believes that Hiro can time-travel. Then, Peter comes in and stops the time, teleports Ando and Hiro away, leaving Parkman with nothing.

HGR comes back to his company. We learn that he gave in Hiro and Ando, believing Hiro is a terrorist and can do harmful things, and he will be allowed by the government to save the harmless ones. While they talk, we learn HGR is helping Parkman’s family to hide too. Bennet sees his assistant shot on the floor just before Parkman pins him down and ends the arrangement. He puts a gun to Bennet’s head then he gets Claire location and shoots him.

Claire convinces her fiance to elope and leave. Parkman’s there too, taking her into custody.
Mohinder questions Hiro abot the past while holding a 9th Wonders issue that Hiro has never seen. (remember the one Isaac sent before he was killed.)

Peter, Ando and Future Hiro are in Peter’s apartment. Peter tells Ando that he died in the explosion, Hiro became grim after his death and he became obssessed about fixing the past because he wants to save Ando. Niki walks in.
Mohinder and Nathan, in Isaac’s studio, talk about Hiro. Mohinder tells Nathan that Hiro has found a way to stop Sylar. Nathan doesn’t believe Hiro can succeed. He still wants to go with his plan. Parkman arrives and tells Nathan that there are two Hiros, and they have the young one. Parkman wants to put him down, but Nathan decides taht he wants Mohinder to do this. Parkman also reveals that he has found Claire.

Claire meets with Nathan. Nathan talks about Candice helping him to get the presidency. He says he has met a lot of special people, he has gained a lot power and now he doesn’t want any other person with power because he doesn’t want the competition. This is where we see Nathan is actually Sylar himself. Then he slices Claire’s head and takes her power. It seems that Claire’s power is the last one Sylar needs.

Future Hiro and Ando talks about how things have changed and weren’t what they expected. Peter and Niki have a fight. Peter talks about DL, Micah and Jessica being gone and she should accept her loss. He explaines Niki why he needs to help Hiro by revealing that it was him who exploded, not Sylar and Nathan blamed it on Sylar to protect him.

Nathan (or Sylar should i say) giving a speech while Peter, Future Hiro and Ando try to save Hiro. Mohinder and Parkman are getting ready to execute Hiro. With Haitian upstairs, both Peter and Future Hiro know they can’t use their powers. Mohinder injects the poison to Haitian, just like Isaac has drawn in 9th Wonders. Peter, Ando and Future Hiro arrive while Mohinder tells Hiro to stop Sylar. Hiro says he doesn’t know how to go back in time by himself, Future Hiro tells them he will get him but Parkman shots him in the back. Parkman calls Nathan/Sylar to tell Haitian his down. Nathan flies wihtout caring that he is infront of a huge crowd.

While Future Hiro dies, Nathan pulls Peter through out the door and throws him down the hall. Peter recognises that he’s not Nathan. Sylar reveals himself and they both nuke up and the battle begins. While they are fighting, Ando assures Hiro that he can take them back in time. Hiro succeeds and takes both of them on top of the Deveuax building.

Here’s another flaw… If Peter can stop time, why didn’t he just stop time when he fought Sylar and kill him?
areReady-
Sylar wasn’t the one who exploded… it was actually Peter. Peter thought his brother told everyone it was actually Sylar in order to protect Peter. Although I’m not sure why Future Hiro thought he stabbed Sylar when in reality Peter was the one that exploded…
@Justin:
Hiro, in addition to folding space and time, can remember all the different timelines he’s been to. After going back in time to the subway and delivering the message to Peter, he returned to his own time and found to his surprise that nothing had changed. He still remembers stabbing Sylar.
I think the show’s philosophy on the future is that the future is shaped by what’s currently happening in the past, and only by knowing the future can Hiro change it. The future in Episode 20 is a result of Hiro going back to warn Peter, Peter exploding in place of Sylar, and Present Hiro being absent from the timeline, which meant he couldn’t stop Sylar. Now that he and Ando have seen the future, they can go back and change it.
What I’d like to know is just how set-in-stone Isaac’s precognitive visions are. Up until now, it’s generally shown different characters what they’re “supposed” to do (Hiro with 9th Wonders, Peter with Homecoming, and now Mohinder with 9th Wonders), and so far not a single vision of his has been wrong. What does this mean for a) the painting of the bomb, b) the paintings of Sylar/Nathan in the Oval Office, and c) the end of the last 9th Wonders which shows Hiro stabbing Sylar? (It may be possible that Linderman doesn’t realise that the painting he shows Nathan of him as president may actually be Sylar.)
Some other tidbits I picked up from Five Years Gone: I realised Nathan was Sylar when he told Mohinder “I understand how things work” when they were examining the timeline in Isaac’s loft; the scene where we first see Nathan standing in the Oval Office is very like to Isaac/Sylar’s paintings; Peter must have met Claire’s mother at some point in the timeline; and Future Sylar has likely obtained the unknown power of Molly Walker. (F-Hiro tells Bennet that he brought him DL, Candice and Molly Walker: Sylar has killed the former two, so likely the latter as well.)
If Parkman doesn’t know Nathan is Sylar, then I have a theory on how he may have overlooked it: we don’t know whether the Haitian’s true allegiances lie with Parkman or Sylar-Nathan. The latter may have ordered the Haitian to block out Matt’s power or indeed ALL powers around him. If Parkman is knowingly working for Sylar (judging from his personality in the future I wouldn’t put it past him) then it’s probably out of either fear or just evil.
I think, producers should not show a such dark episode of the future.
Sylar is not evil, it is his nature to provide a balance. Parkman cant read Sylar’s mind because Sylar knows how thinks work, Now he can examine a brain with out harming it using DL’s Power. After all Sylar has the bigest power. Knowing how things work.
Try wrapping your head around this.
Hiro caused the explosion. Please, just bare with me…
Time travelling storylines can be extremely complicated. Hiros timeline is cyclical and something Hiro does in the future directly affects what he does in the past which affects what he does in the future. We don’t even know if what happened in the pilot, when Hiro witnessed the explosion, was the same timeline as Hiro would’ve followed if he hadn’t discovered his power.
Now, Hiro travels back in time and tells Peter “Save the cheerleader, Save the World.” Peter goes on a quest to find Claire and save her, granting him her regenerative powers. Later, Peter fights Sylar in Mohinders appartment and gets a piece of glass lodged in the back of his head, killing him. If he hadn’t saved Claire and gained her powers, he would’ve either died there, or never been on the quest to find Sylar in the first place, in which he would have no direction in “finding himself” and probably wouldn’t meet Ted and gain his powers.
IMO, it was all Hiros fault…
How did Sylar get into Claires brain without her regenerating?????
arggghhh ! you guys think a lil too much !relax — it duznt have complicated story line like other series namely lost ! lost is an interactive show where the viewer has to use her head to follow through with the next epi ! relax and enjoy the season !!!! geez – you’re suckin the fun ryt out of it ! if you really really really wana indulge in sumthin so bizzarely twisted and addictive – start watchin lost ! it had me hooked by the 12th epi ! cheers
Future Hiro stabbed Sylar. Has it occur to you that perhaps Sylar has already has Candice’s shapeshifting powers to trick Linderman into healing Sylar while as he is imposting as Nathan, and being Nathan for that moment Sylar realises that being Nathan would be a great earn because he could collect everyone elses powers since he has the political power as the president? Heroes is a series full of mistery that’s for sure and that’s why i love it . (:
this is totally awesome-what i dont get is how Claire dies soo suddenly!
i am shattered!
great hey?!
see you soon
They didn’t show Claire aCtuALLy dying.. Sylar started to kill her and she said “Sylar”. Just like the time Sylar was starting to ill Peter (but Peter had the ability to heal).. and he didn’t die. So Claire’s gona probably heal herself. Whoever wrote up the recap for the episode made everything so final, when really.. some stuff they showed was unfinished, and remains a mystery. we don’t really know. just like they said how bennet saved DL.. when we know he “died”.. everything’s uncertain. dont jump to conclusions so fast you guys!
