it’s still pretty hard for me to accept the explanation given for why peter needs sylar power…
but…I need to know something…
why when sylar explode…daphne who has the ability to run very fast…didn’t manage to runaway…
but knox…who’s suppose to be moving like a turtle compare to daphne, manage to run away from the scene unhurt?
and one more thing…
where the hell is sylar after the explosion?
I thought he can’t die?

]]>Peter has to know that he has the ability and understand it before he can use it. Take for example the newly acquired fire ability from Flint – it’s pretty obvious even for us viewers. But only the viewers knew what Sylar’s real ability was – Peter didn’t, but once he got aware of it then it was activated. At least that’s what I figured
That was with Claire standing right next to him, though, when he was revived. He also absorbs people’s abilities by being near them too.
I’m kinda just throwing out assumptions here, though… there really are a lot of inconsistencies.
]]>I’ve watching this show since the begining, and if I’m not wrong, Peter had the same power sylar did, right, with the exception that he could just watch people and learn theyr abilities. Yeah, in season 2 he lost his memory and so, but still, would this power just vanish?

]]>The scene with Peter makes sense if you understand Sylar’s power as being able to see how things work. Peter can mimic Nathan’s ability, but he doesn’t understand how Nathan ticks. The difference can be explained this way.
Suppose you see one person look at his watch and press a button and instantly he gets a $1000. You look at your watch and press the button and get $1000. You can do this 100 times and arrive at the same results. You have no clue what’s going on, and are curious, but you accept it because you can’t know. Now someone offers you the ability to open up the machine, look inside, read the manuals, and find out all it’s secrets. That’s what Sylar did when Peter got his ability. I suspect the ability also enhances one’s curiosity to the point of inhumanity, and likely decreases one’s empathy (i.e. Peter’s natural power).
BTW, I agree about blurring good and evil. There needs to be some consistent good and some consistent evil. If everyone’s morally gray, you have no-one to cheer for. You just have a bunch of people taking turns at being “the bad guy” or “the good guy”, at random moments….sort of like Calvinball.
That being said, I suspect one point that’s being made is that power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. But that power is inevitable, and it may come before society is ready for it. If this is the purpose, then Heroes isn’t really a drama, it’s more of a social commentary.
In the real world, society is currently in the stage where just about any country can unleash horrible biological and chemical weapons and many can produce nuclear weapons if they are determined enough. It’s possible to kill millions from a safe distance and never have to trouble yourself with seeing you victims.
On the individual level, just using google and a few common ingredients, and individual, with a bit of planning could blow up a building. That sort of national personal power can only increase with time. How do we handle it? Can we handle it?
]]>Future Peter not healing after the Haitian leaves the room. – Claire said in the episode that he was still alive. She must have done something to prevent the healing process.
Sylar not using his powers when confronted by Knox, Claire, and Daphne. – Sylar made it very clear that he did not want Noah to see him use his powers when painting the future. This is the new parental side of Sylar and very admirable. I think Peter held off on his powers for the same reason.
Now on to the direction of the show. Why do the writers need to give up all the information at once? Season one didn’t and I was constantly trying to figure it out. This season doesn’t seem much different. As a fan of the show I have faith that there are reasons for questions to remain unanswered. It is what makes the show enjoyable to me and keeps me coming back each week. I gotta know what is going to happen. And I don’t think that Peter riding the good/bad line is to blur that line but to rather show that it is sometimes human nature to give in to the hunger of power(s). If I had powers I would prolly ride that line as well. Face it, it’s more fun to be bad.
]]>The scene where Peter starts cutting open Nathan’s head makes NO SENSE! Peter has already absorbed Nathan’s ability as he can absorb anybody’s ability, so why the hell would he cut his head open? The ONLY reason Sylar did it was to get more powers.
And WTF to Claire killing Peter with bullets to the chest. And WTF to Sylar when his kid’s life is in danger, he doesn’t use any of the hundreds of abilities that he has? He should be able to kill them in an instant.
