Volume 2 Episode 3 ‘Kindred’ Recap

The third episode of the season, ‘Kindred’, starts with Peter still trying to get the ‘box’ that contains the information on his past from Ricky. Peter can read minds, and hears Will thinking of his plan to steal the money from the gang after the robbery. Peter tells Ricky, but Ricky defends Will, calling him a brother, and shows Peter a special family crest tattooed on Will’s arm.

In the meantime Maya and Alejandro are still trying to get to the States. They decide to steal a vehicle, but they get spotted by a policeman, who chases them and manages to arrest Alejandro.

In Nevada: Niki tells Micah they’ll leave Las Vegas. Micah doesn’t like the idea, Niki tells him they need to start a new life. They place flowers on DL’s grave.

Maui. Sylar wakes up. He’s at the beach, sitting on a lawn chair, tropical drinks on the table near him. Candice (now she calls herself Michelle, and changed her look) tells him she rescued him at Kirby Plaza and she’s curing his wound. Sylar tells her he’s not wounded, Michelle tells him it’s all an illusion, and shows him that -in reality- they’re inside a shack and Sylar is lying in a hospital-style bed.

Costa Verde, California.
HRG and Claire discuss the importance to keep her identity (and special ability) a secret. Claire then goes to school and is confronted by West. Claire tries to convince him that what he saw the night before wasn’t what it seemed, West instead is convinced he saw her cutting her toe off, and her toe regenerated.

NY.
Matt wakes up, Molly is sleeping. He goes in the kitchen and finds Mohinder. They talk about the Company. Molly wakes up and runs to hug Mohinder.

Japan. Ando at the office.
He gets Hiro’s katana (the one damaged by Sylar, all that’s left is the handle and a third of the blade) and notices on the pommel an inscription that reads ‘Ando Open’.

He forces the pommel open, and inside he finds hidden a few little scrolls written by Hiro during his stay in Feudal Japan. Hiro tells his adventures, tells him that Tazeko Kensei has great powers. Takezo is lying on the ground, Hiro pulls the arrows from his chest, the wounds heal immediately. Takezo freaks out, calls Hiro a demon and runs away.

In the meantime: Peter’s trying to master the use of his powers. Caitlin walks in. They talk about his powers. Caitlin tells him he can trust her, she didn’t say anything about his powers, and she’ll keep an eye open for him later that night, during the robbery.

Back in Mexico, where Alejandro is put behind bars and meets an American inmate, Derek.

Back to Claire: during class West asks the professors if a lizard could breed with a human the offspring could regenerate a cut limb. Claire is visibly upset and she storms outside.

In Japan, Ando is still reading Hiro’s messages. Hiro talks of Yaeko, the swordsmith’s daughter, his love for her, but she’s destined to be Tazeko’s companion. Hiro finds Takezo still shocked, Hiro explains him they’re special, he can teleport and stop time (and demonstrates his powers to Takezo). Not surprisingly the first thought in Tazeko’s mind is to profit from his powers, so Hiro teleports both of them to a fortress where the Fire Scroll is being protected by 90 Ninjas. Hiro leaves Takezo to fight them.

Claire is sitting outside, West approaches him, Claire is upset. She explains him she doesn’t care, he can tell everybody she’s a freak, West smiles, grabs her in his arms and they fly away, over the city, to the sea.

Peter, Caitlin, Ricky, Willa and Tuck are robbing the guards. One of them pulls the alarm and the shooting starts. Peter uses his powers to move a truck between them and the guards. Peter and Caitlin escape by car.

Niki brings Micah in New Orleans, to his grandmother, Nana.

Maya goes to rescue Alejandro. The prison guards upset her, trying to arrest her. Her eyes turn black, everybody in the police station faints, Maya frees Alejandro, who brings Maya back to normal and her victims start to regain consciousness. Derek (the American) asks them to bring him along, he has a car waiting outside. They accept.

Back to Hiro, who’s telling Ando he’ll return, but not just yet. He doesn’t seem able to leave the place and times of his new found love. Kensey comes back from the battle with the ninjas victorious, and he got the Fire Scroll back. Yaeko is impressed.

Ricky and the gang are celebrating success. Will pulls a gun and threatens Ricky. Peter comments he said that, Will shoots twice, hitting him on the chest and keeps
threatening Ricky. Peter’s body expels the bullets and heals, Peter - telekinetically- throws Will against a wall and holds him there, chocking. Peter has a very Sylar-like look on his face, that disappears thanks to Caitlin’s pleas. Peter lets Will go.

Sylar is trying to regain his powers. He’s very frustrated and Michelle frustrates even more. He kills her and tries to absorb her powers. He tries to cast an illusion, he can’t, runs outside, to find himself in the middle of a tropical forest.

Caitlin is tattooing the family’s crest on Peter’s arm. Ricky says Peter is now part of the family, families have no secrets and gives him the box with his belongings. Ricky leaves. Caitlin asks Peter if he’s going to open the box, Peter won’t and kisses her (in the meantime the crest fades in a ‘GodSend’ symbol)

Claire and West are at the beach, they talk about their abilities, they kiss. Claire notices a mark on his neck, West says he got that two years ago, in Saint Louis. He was riding his bike, lost his memory and woke up in his room. All he remembers is the last person he saw, a man wearing horned rimmed glasses.

Mohinder is in his lab, Bob walks outside to answer a call from Niki (who’s asking help, that Bob promises her in trade of a favor). Mohinder takes advantage of being alone to call HRG and check the lab for paintings left behind by Isaac. He finds painting #8 (of 8 ) He sends an image to HRG, who downloads it to his laptop While he’s staring at the image Claire walks in, and -very coldly- wishes him goodnight.
HRG goes back looking at the photo of the painting: it depicts a bleeding HRG, shot in the eye, lying on the ground.
