It -could- be a god way to explore existing character's backgrounds (i.e showing Niki/Jessica's childhood, and it's been done to some extent (Jessica killing D.L's gang and stealing the money, and how D.L escaped from prison), but other stuff, like Hana Gitelman's (Wireless) story just added to the confusion. I had a hard time explaining to others (who haven't read the comics) what that chick was all about, and what happened to her (when she was introduced in the show and then just disappeared without explanation, after helping HRG take out one of the tracking systems).
