Flash News : Heroes – Origins cancelled by NBC

29 Comments 01 November 2007

nbc-logo-s.gifOur friends at TVGuide gave us the bad news, Heroes: Origins (that’s the old name of the project, they’re thinking about changing the name) has been canceled by NBC because of the strike by the Writers Guild of America…

NBC has pulled the plug on Heroes: Origins, the Heroes spin-off that was slated to run next April. The network declined comment, but sources said the possible strike by the Writers Guild of America — which could happen after the guild’s contract expires midnight Thursday — played a role in the decision.

“Looking at everything in context of the strike, we’re evaluating all of our production commitments,” said one insider. “Scripts haven’t been written yet.”

Origins was designed to provide fans with six episodes of a fresh Heroes-related show in place of repeats in the spring. If the labor situation changes quickly, the network could revisit the decision to scrap the show. — Reporting by Stephen Battaglio

According to Variety, there’s a chance Origins could be produced at a later date.

Heroes fans from UK, it’s time to celebrate this great news. BBC Two decided to air “Heroes:Origins”.

Heroes spinoff Heroes: Origins will air on BBC Two. The spinoff, which is expected to air on NBC in April, will feature a new cast and introduce a new character in each part of its six episode run.

BBC Two controller Roly Keating told Digital Spy that his channel will “definitely be running it.

An interactive vote conducted on the show’s official website will determine which of the introduced characters will go on to become a cast regular on Heroes’ third season.

“In America there’s an interactive element and we’d like to do that here, but I don’t know if time will be on our side,” Keating added.

heroes-nbc-worldtourNBC threw a press conference today to announce the Heroes World Tour that will include stops in Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore, Munich, Paris, London and New York. Fans will be able to follow the tour on nbc.com/heroesworldtour , which will include pictures and blogs.

The whole cast was on hand, including MILO VENTIMIGLIA (Peter Petrelli) and ADRIAN PASDAR (Nathan Petrelli.

Only notable absence: Leonard Roberts (DL).

“This is about the first season tour and the release for the first season DVD,” Creator and Executive Producer TIM KRING said explaining the actors’ presence without giving away the storyline for the show’s second season. Adrian Pasadar said: “On this show anything can happen. I am very happy to be up here today.”

“I took my wife to Paris and [Heroes] hasn’t appeared on TV there yet, and people were stopping me left and right, literally all over the place, because they are watching it on the Internet,” said GREG GRUNBERG, who plays Matt Parkman. He also revealed he was back to work, which led reporters to speculate that he survived taking four bullets to the chest in the season finale.

Season two of “Heroes” began production on Monday, and the cast was enthusiastic about being back to work, especially HAYDEN PANETTIERE, who stated, “It is amazing [to be back].”

Tim Kring clarified what is happening with “Heroes: Origins” spin-off. It will not feature cast members from the original show. He explained, “The idea is that these are the stories of other people. The show has posited the idea that this is happening all over the world. This is an opportunity for us to tell some other stories.”

The plan for “Heroes” is to run all 24 of its episodes, and then the six “Heroes: Origins” episodes will follow , which is a change from how the concept was introduced back in May.

The “Heroes” DVD and HD DVD ships August 28. It will include the never-aired 70 minute version of the pilot episode. [via ETOnline.com]
