LOS ANGELES — Striking Hollywood writers voted overwhelmingly Tuesday to end their 100-day strike against producers that essentially shut down the entertainment industry.

The strike is over. Our membership has voted, and writers can back to work,” said Patrick Verrone, president of the Writers Guild of America, West.

WGA: 48-hour vote to end the strike

Variety.com just posted the updates on the WGA strike, after the meetings in NY and LA:

“WGA members will have the chance to vote on whether to end the strike under an expedited 48-hour voting process, WGA leaders told members during Saturday’s night’s meeting to detail the contract deal just reached with the majors.

That means scribes technically will not be back to work on Monday, as had been widely expected in recent days. However, numerous members attending the meeting – which drew about 3,000 to the Shrine Auditorium — said many people will unofficially be prepping projects and scripts.

Breakthrough in WGA talks

Talks between WGA leaders and top studio execs on Friday and Saturday have been productive enough to generate cautious optimism that a settlement to the three-month-old strike may soon be at hand.

WGA negotiating committee head John Bowman and WGA West exec director David Young had a lengthy meeting Friday with News Corp. pres Peter Chernin and Walt Disney Co. CEO Robert Iger that was described as having gone well overall, despite some tension at the outset. It’s understood that those conversations continued on Saturday, though it was not clear if it was by phone or face-to-face.
