James Kyson Lee’s Ando Masahashi regular on Heroes!

1 Comment 18 July 2007

James Kyson Lee Ando Masahashi

James Kyson Lee’s Ando Masahashi becomes “a full-fledged regular” on “Heroes” in the new season, the actor is glad to report.
As far as he is concerned, Ando, who started off as the rather reckless and feckless pal of Hiro (Masi Oka) on the NBC hit, “has gone through one of the biggest growth transformations of all the characters. He started off thinking Hiro was living in a fantasyland, but slowly became a believer. Now he’s started spearheading some of their actions. He’s an important part of this mission, even though he doesn’t have powers right now. That’s something people can latch onto — the idea of facing danger knowing you’re mortal and don’t have super abilities. Ando plays the perspective of an audience member, and asks a lot of the questions viewers would ask.”

The Seoul-born, Bronx-bred Lee says that as far as socializing with the rest of the “Heroes” cast, “We try to when we have time, but there’s not a lot of time. We work at such a frenetic pace. One week I had to shoot four different scenes with four different directors. It was insane.”

Tim Kring: Mr. Linderman is dead, Ando may become a regular .

25 Comments 26 June 2007

Tim Kring Heroes After last week’s press conference in Los Angeles, organized by NBC to announce the Heroes World Tour, Tim Kring, creator, writer and executive producer of the show, sat down to field questions about next season of Heroes .
Here’s the highlights from the Q&A session:

Q: Is everyone coming back for Season Two?

Kring: Well, I don’t want to spoil that for the fans. Clearly we left things up in the air with several of the characters and we want to make sure that the fans don’t know what’s going to happen so that it doesn’t spoil their [enjoyment].

Q: You said 24 episodes. Does that mean no one really died?

Kring: Again, you really just have to wait.

Q: But you’re keeping them available so you can bring them back?

Kring: Exactly, they’re all on retainer just in case they’re needed. [joking]

Q: So will there be some kind of recap for people who didn’t see last season?

Kring: Only slightly because the actual episode itself, it’s an episode entitled “Four Months Later” and so we pick up the stories four months after we left off at the end of the season. There is tremendous mystery in what happened during those four months and that’s part of why you’re watching these first few episodes. They’re revealing what actually happened. So the recap, in a way, is sort of built into the story.

Q: Will Tim Sale [the artist that -in reality- creates Isaac's artwork]be involved in Season Two?

Kring: Yes, Tim will be staying involved. So, the idea of the paintings is going to have a clever sort of reentry into the show.

Q: When you say four months later does that mean that Hiro will have been in feudal Japan for four months?

TV Squad Interviews James Kyson Lee of Heroes (aka Ando)

4 Comments 10 May 2007

Here is a recent interview with James Kyson Lee (Ando)! He reveals more about what’s going on in the show, his character Ando, and Ando and Hiro’s journey to save the future:

Ando — James Kyson Lee of Heroes
Heroes!
James Kyson Lee has a job plenty of people would love to claim: starring on NBC’s Heroes, one of the best shows of this season, and currently riding a wave of both critical and fan-based praise. However, if you’d asked him a few months ago if he thought he’d be where he is now, he wouldn’t have been able to tell you. Unless he’d been able to peek at a painting or two by Isaac Mendez.Although Lee started out playing sidekick Ando to Masi Oka’s Hiro, he’s definitely come a long way since then. He’s gone from cubicle neighbor, to reluctant participant, to butt-kicking undercover security guard guy, all in the space of one season. He’s also get even tougher before this season is over. It could be argued that of all the characters on the show, Lee has undergone the biggest change, that is if you don’t count Future Hiro.

A group of us caught up with Lee during our visit to the set of Heroes, and they let us interview him in Isaac’s New York artist’s loft. Surrounded by piles of comic books and Isaac’s paintings, he filled us in on what’s been happening with Ando, what will happen in the future, and where his own career is going.
